The Skills Centre is a dynamic facility that believes in the transformative power of skill-building. Our centre offers various services tailored to meet each participant’s needs.

Our comprehensive program and inclusive environment are designed to assist individuals with various abilities to lead fulfilling lives. We offer fun and meaningful experiences centered around our five pillars of curriculum: home skills, community inclusion, independent living, vocational skills, and advocacy.

We take pride in offering a unique approach to skill-building and are dedicated to working with each participant to help them reach their full potential. At the Skills Centre, we believe that everyone has the potential to grow and reach their goals. Our services empower individuals to enhance their personal development and achieve greater independence.

Pillars of Curriculum

  • The activities for home skills focus on practical, hands-on learning in a supportive environment. We strive for each person we support to develop essential skills for maintaining a household, fostering self-sufficiency and pride in their abilities.

    Key Areas:

    • Cooking and meal planning

    • Cleaning and organization

    • Using kitchen appliances

    • Laundry skills (washing, folding, ironing)

    • Housekeeping routines

  • We focus on fostering connections and participation in various community events and initiatives. Each person will have opportunities to build relationships, contribute to their community, and enjoy a sense of belonging.

    • Community activism

    • Pet therapy

    • Guest speaker events

    • Park and trail outings

    • Cultural activities

  • Our approach emphasizes practical and essential skills needed to live self-sufficiently. We cover a range of topics to help participants effectively managing their daily lives with well-being and independence in mind.

    • Community volunteer opportunities

    • Hygiene and self-care routines

    • Healthy lifestyle habits

    • Personal safety and emergency preparedness

  • Our Employment Program focuses on equipping individuals with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed in the workforce. We provide tailored supports to assess current strengths and develop both hard and soft skills essential for employment readiness.

    Key Areas:

    • Individualized employment supports

    • Financial literacy (pay stubs, taxes, grants, and more)

    • Navigating ODSP and the ESA

    • Resume building and application strategies

    • Interview preparation and job coaching

  • Our program aims to empower participants to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions. We focus on developing self-advocacy skills and fostering authentic self-expression, ensuring each individual can assert their rights and needs effectively.

    • Advocates Against Abuse training

    • Identifying/expressing personal values

    • Accessing/navigating community resources
